more or less life size, carved from the length of a tree trunk.
This funerary statue probably personifies a particular ancestral spirit or deity that brought good fortune, dispelled evil spirits--possibly used in malagan
ceremony.
Now in the de Young Museum's New Guinea and Oceanic Art collection--selected for the 2021 Bouquets to Art (BTA) exhibition.
